JCCS Academic Language Written Assessment Week 33

I think American students are falling behind academically compared to students in other countries. There are kids in other countries who are very smart and know what goes on here as well as there. Us as America in whole don't have the technology that other places may have, so that's another reason we are behind. COMPARED to kids that live in China, us here in America only go to school 5 days a week, while they tend to go for 6 days. Also DATA can prove that a lot of kids who come from different place are a bit smarter academically. Like Tota for example. She came from Iran, and when she got here, she spoke 3 languages, got A's in her classes, and I asked her why she was so smart, she simply explained that everything that we're learning she has already been taught when she was younger. America is not all the way behind for students in our RANGE. But when you put other countries in it, we could be better. That's why American students are falling behind in Academic.

Should schools eliminate "D" grades?

Should Global Positioning System (GPS) devices be required for habitually truant students?

GPS devices should be required for habitually truant students. The first reason it should be ADMINISTERED is for their safety. If they ditched school, and wanted to go somewhere dangerous, the beeper would go off.Also if someone tried to kidnap them at school, or take them off campus the school will be alarmed. The second reason is also for the parents concern, so they won't get in trouble. If a student has a certain amount of truant days where they don't go to school, sometimes parent go to jail for not. For keeping their student absent. But not all the time is it the parents fault. So this way they can tell if the student ditches. The last reason is because the student can get more learning done, because they will be in school at all time, and they can't leave. Students will have more appropriate CONDUCT because they will be in school learning.

Academic Language Week 25 - Concealed Handguns

I believe that adults should be able to carry concealed handguns for several reasons. My first reason is that most need it for their safety. If you INDICATE danger around you, you would feel more protected because you have something to use to defend yourself. My second reason is that everyone has a right to bear arms, so if people want to ESTABLISH that right, and get their own gun by all means let them. My third reason is that most adults are responsible. So they know how to use their gun, and the appropriate time to do it. Adults have to JUSTIFY to get a permit for a gun. To prove that they can have one. That's why adults should be able to have guns.

Academic Language Week 21 - Steroids

Performance enhancing drugs should not be allowed in sports for many reasons. My first reason is that it's not fair. If one person is taking drugs and cheating to be a better player but no one else had that advantage they are cheating. My second reason is that it can hurt them, if you take steroids for a PERIOD of time it can have side affects and sometimes including death. My last reason is that if you get caught most times you will get fired, or go to jail. Some of the players might say it's a TRADITION and that everyone is using it. They don't know that's the PRIMARY reason they go to jail or earn the consequence from using it. Steroid shouldn't be able for use because either way you looks at it, it's bad.

Academic Language Practice Paragaph 10

Should doctors be allowed to help critically ill patients commit suicide? Yes, I believe that doctors should be allowed to help critically ill patients commit suicide. My first reason is that a lot of people that are ill and know that they are going to be deceased soon so why would you have a CRITERIA to keep them in pain? It makes more sense to just let them put themselves out of their misery. The patient doesnt have to get CONSENT from anyone but their doctor,they have lived a good life so obviously they know they are making a right choice. My second reason is that it's EMPHASIZED that doctors shouldn't kill lives. Well taking the shot to end the process is much more cheaper then to keep them on life support and on machines. Those are my reasons on why it should be okay for the doctors to do this.

Academic Language Practice Paragaph 9

In my personal opinion, No junk food should not be banned from schools vending machine because of 3 simple reasons. One being that kids are just going to find another ALTERNATIVE to try to get junk food anyway, so there is no point in banning a vending machine to keep kids healthier. The second reason is that at schools when they have vending machines their STRATEGY is to get profit to go into the school so it will benefit them. So if you take the junk food away they are only hurting the school. The last reason is that if there is a vending machine at school the student is most likely in high school and knows what's healthy and what's not from being in PREVIOUS schools. These are reasons why junk food doesn't need to be banned from vending machines.

Academic Language Practice Paragaph 8

No, I don't believe that the 10 Commandments belong in school. The reason why It doesn't belong is because a lot of people have different religions and some aren't Christian. A lot of kids who are Christian go to church and learn the 10 commandments there. It's not the schools ROLE to teach children about that when they can learn something else that is relevant.  If kids learn the 10 commandments in school then they are CONSUMING information that isn't needed for them, to graduate. Kids go to school to learn something that will benefit them. Another reason that children don't need the 10 commandments is that if some kids follow them and some don't and as peers they might put eachother into CATEGORIES and make other children feel bad. That's why the 10 commandments don't need to be in school.                                                                              

Academic Language Practice Paragraph 7 - Vampires

Will the popularity of vampires in literature and movies fade away? Of course they will,new things come in trend all the time. One reason that the popularity of vampires in literature and movies fade away is that there are too many of them like Twilight,The Vampire Diaries, or True Blood start to get annoying after you realize all the characters and the PLOT are the same. Another reason is that these vampire movies will fade away because they  are making the vampires romantic and mysterious and a FACTOR of that is attracting a female audience because they think its "cute". The way that they are making vampires now is not how they were back then. Now they have vampires afraid to drink other humans blood because thier in love with them or wanna let them free. Isnt that the true meaning of vampire? To drink humans blood? Now it's like they have taken the vampires VOICE away and they can't even be themselves anymore. There are so many reasons why Vampires will fade away because it's to overexposed.

Academic Language Week 6 - Citizenship

Undocumented Immigrants should not be able to become citizens for many reasons. One reason is that today in our economy we barley have money to do anything. A lot of people come to America to live the "Good Life" but their doing it the illegal way. The illegal way is by not paying all taxes. As a citizen you are required to pay yearly taxes on everything. This will VERIFY you as an American citizen because you are following the law. The second reason is that when immigrants come over here illegally, what happens when they get hurt? Well we pay the cost. We are providing healthcare and services for them because they refuse to to go through the SEQUENCE of becoming an American citizen. The last reason is if one person comes over,then another person comes over,soon they will have their whole family illegally here living off the money that we make. That isn't fair for people in other countries besides Mexico going through the process,buying a passport and SIMPLIFYING things for them to come over to become a citizen the right way. Undocumented Immigrants need to go through the steps of becoming an American citizen the right way,and to be fair.

Academic Language Week 5 - Vaccinations

Yes,Vaccinations should definitely be required for small children. The ESTIMATION of kids who do and do not get the shot is a big difference. Kids who get the shot are more protected and their parents would be 100% POSTIVE that they are prevented from that certain type of disease. Kids who don't get the shot their parents are unsure if they are protected or not. Kids like to interact with other kids as well like a park. If there is a diseased  kid who has not gotten their shot and they are of age and their around younger kids who cant have their shot then that's how germs and diseases can pass around. Some our harmless while others can actually hurt or a kill a child. Then the fault would be upon the parents for not vaccinating their child,spreading it to others and killing children. I don't think any parent would want to ILLUSTRATE why their child is dead. So why go through all these problem when you can vaccinate your child and protect other kids.as well as yours?
